Question by techguy2: can I report a bad debt to IRS?
If you settle a credit card debt for less than the balance, they send a 1099 to IRS for the difference. Could not someone do the same thing with a person who borrowed money and did not pay it back? Does IRS care?
the question was could I 1099 someone who defaulted on a debt .. not so much could I get a deduction on it. Thank you for your answer though.
