Closing checking account bad for credit?

Question by faketree: Closing checking account bad for credit?
I recently moved from California to New Jersey. The bank I used in California is only a west coast bank (Bank of the West) so when I arrived here I opened a Bank of America checking account so I have a local bank. Is there any reason to keep the California checking account even though it won't be used so it won't be negative on my credit report?
